My Natural Hair Journey

I cut my hair last Saturday (4/7/2012). I have a video on my page that shows how my hair was damaged and weak. I made huge progress in growing my hair, but I decided that it was time to get rid of the damaged part of my hair. So this is the end of relaxers for me. Never Again!

I learned a lot about relaxers and other chemicals for the past year. I also learned how heat can damage my hair. I remember telling one of my friends, if both heat and relaxers can damage my hair, I can only do one or the other, not both of them at the same time.

This is the best sew-in that I have ever done on my hair. I love this kind of protective style during winter, but I love natural hair during the summer. As a matter of fact, I cut my hair almost every winter. Before, I did not know how to take care of my hair. So I would use weave or braids during the winter, and cut the dry split ends when summer came. Now, thanks to the ladies on youtube, I know how to take good care of my hair. I plan on using protective styles next winter and the winters after that, but I will wash and condition my hair so I don't loose my ends.

This is my hair after the big chop. I have coarse, kinky, 4c hair. It is hard for me to define my curls, even with gel or moisturizing conditioner. The plan was to cut off my ends, not trimming, but cutting all the part that was relaxed on my birthday - June 25th - but I got tired of seeing my hair after I washed it on Saturday. It was just a bad combination. My roots and my ends did not look good together, since my ends were very thin and broken after I had my last relaxer back in October of 2011. I still have a little bit of relaxer on my ends, which I am planning on getting rid of  on my birthday.
