What I Do When I Am Not Blogging: My Little Sewing Space (PHOTOS)

 Hi guys,
I usually don’t post on Sundays because I get my lowest page views on Sundays, but I wanted to share with you a little bit more of what’s going on at my house when I am not writing blog posts or commenting on other bloggers’ posts. I wish I could have taken better pictures, but my camera was not cooperating. So this little space is located in my bedroom. As you can see, the bathroom is on the left side, (sorry! I forgot to close the door) and my walk-in closet is on the right side. I have a lot of yarns and yarn projects that I am not sure if I will ever finish. I get all of my yarns from my local thrift store. So if you are allergic to any kind of animals or nicotine, don’t ask me to make anything for you:-) I will be making lots of scarves and hats using those yarns this Fall season to giveaway to friends and family as Christmas presents.

I only keep my laptop upstairs at night. We travel from the kitchen to my home office (which I will have a chance to show you one day) during the day. I blog in the kitchen 90% of the time.

Although I have not been doing a lot of sewing (using the machine) lately, I am a seamstress at heart. I love it. I love my creations, my projects (big or small), and I love using my sewing machine. My husband got this new one for me about 3 years ago, and I am crazy about it! It is so easy to thread and use.

I have been doing most of my sewing by hands for small projects that don’t require a machine; that’s why I have extra threads on the side. I have bigger rolls of threads in my wicker sewing basket pictured below. I also have some beads for when I am making gifts for friends, like earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. I have all kind of jewelry making tools and crochet needles. I am not good at knitting, but I am learning. I have more than 3 glue guns that I use to hem my jeans after cutting them (when I get really lazy).

I really need to learn how to sew. Had to hand sew my satin bonnet which took a lot of time and energy/frustration. I never showed any interest as a child when my Mum did her sewing. I regret now. But I guess with youtube it might not be such a hassle to learn. Will have to order a sewing machine for starters….any recommendations for a newbie like me?

    Hi Onyeka,
I learned how to sew when I was in my teens. It was a requirement because it was believed that women were created to work from home and take care of their families where I came from.
I will write a post in which I will show you the basics and what materials you will need, if you are really interested. Youtube is always a good place to start.

    Lauren,
It only looks like that when I am not working in the area. It gets pretty messy sometimes.
