Color Of The Year 2014: Radiant Orchid

Radiant orchid

Radiant Orchid was declared the color of the year by Pantone. Pantone is a color institute located in Carlstadt, New Jersey. When Pantone declares the color of the year, designers, manufacturers, and furniture makers, just have to go with the flow. While fashion designers can easily predict the color of the year by identifying what color is  selling more than others,   Pantone creates the original color and provides the formula to different companies. This year’s color (18-3224) is a combination of blue, red, and a little bit of black. According to Leatrice Eiseman, Pantone’s executive director, Radiant Orchid is a captivating purple: A color that takes away your attention from other things around you.

  • A few facts about purple

    • Purple ( a combination between red and blue) is one of the rare colors in nature.
    • Purple became available to the masses in 1856. It was reserved for royalty and the church before then.
    • Violet is its own color, with its own place in the color spectrum. It was identified by Isaac Newton in 1672.

I have a love-hate relationship with this color – I don't really like it but it suits my skin type really well, so I end up wearing it anyway 😀
