Fitness Friday: Dieting Does Not Mean I Have To Give Up My Favorite Foods

I cannot bake to save my life, but I love baked goods. Cheese cake is one of my favorite desserts. Being on this diet has kept me away from it for a long time. Being on this diet has kept me away from a lot of sweets and comfort foods. I have to constantly remind myself that a restricted diet never works. A healthy diet that allows me to eat what I love to eat in moderation is what I call a lifestyle diet.

Fitness Friday                  Eliminating the food that you love from your diet can only lead to over-eating after reaching your goal weight. That’s why we’ve seen so many of us gain all the weight back after working so hard to lose it. The way you eat now should be the way you eat after doing your victory dance. What I do is I follow a strict diet from Monday to Saturday, and I splurge on Sundays. Yep, I break all the rules on the Lord’s day. Why Sunday? Because that’s when we have our family gathering. We eat, we drink, and I cheat on my diet. Sometimes cheating means having a toasted raisin bagel with Philadelphia Plain Cream Cheese for breakfast instead of one hard boiled egg and  a bowl of cereals with milk. While I know that Sunday is my splurging day, I pick my poison carefully. I don’t over-eat. I don’t do anything that would require me to walk more than three miles the next day.

While being on a low salt, low sugar, and low carbs diet is a good thing, not being able to enjoy the food that you love can also be a bad thing when trying to lose weight. Allowing yourself to find joy in your comfort foods once in a while can contribute to your weight loss success. The way you eat now should be the way you eat years after you’ve lost the weight.

What are your weaknesses when it comes to dieting?

My weakness when it comes to dieting is chocolate! I love chocolate so much, almost as much as coffee. That is my weakness. So I eat in moderation. I like your advice, it's not good to restrict yourself, moderation, moderation.

    Much Love,
    Tania

Congrats on your healthy diet adventure. Bread & Jamaican Fruit Cake are my weaknesses, everything else I can do without. Looking forward to hear about your adventures.

I totally feel you on having a splurge day. It is definitely a necessity when eating healthy! I normally splurge between Friday and Saturday depending on how I feel.

Since I gave up sweets for lent, I've lost almost 2 lbs. What does this show me? I have no portion control when it comes to the sweet stuff! LOL. Even on a splurge day, I'd probably take it too far. Curse you chocolate!

It is alright to have one cheat day a week. I try my best to eat clean every single day but when we are celebrating a birthday or a holiday it is challenging to stick with a clean diet.

I host a Fitness Friday linky every week on my blog thehealthymoms.net and I invite you to link up and share my button on your site. Have a terrific weekend!

I completly agree, it's a lifestyle change and these changes should be for life. A treat is allowed but sticking to it is what's it really comes down to.

I love this post and I totally agree with you that the way we eat while we are on a weight loss journey is tied to our overall weight loss success. The statement "choose your poison carefully" put a smile to my face too. Thanks so much for sharing your weight loss experience.

I believe in cheat days because it really helps me to stay on target and remained focused. Some people don't believe in them but it works for me.

I have a crazy sweet tooth which kind of sucks since processed sugar is the worst thing us humans can eat. After googling (results were pretty frightening) why processed sugar is bad I no longer keep any sweets in house but when I get a hankering for sweets I just eat mangos, strawberries, or passionfruit juice. I've learned to love fruits now but from time to time I do indulge in some frozen yogurt and chocolate sprinkles.
