Fitness Friday: How I Survived Memorial Day Weekend BBQs

I hope it is not too late to ask you about your Memorial Day weekend. Isn't it funny how the days leading up to Memorial Day are the most fun ones? Happy dance for those of us who had the weekend off! If you did not, just forget that I said anything. I used to be one of these people who find excuses to eat a lot. My best excuse is "Thanksgiving only comes once a year". Then I remember so does Christmas and 4th of July, and all the other holidays! I love to enjoy a good meal with my family, but last sunday I had to think about the consequences.  I cannot afford to gain one more pound. No, not when I am so close to the finish line. I knew my husband was going to grill on Sunday; so I had the whole day planned.

Fitness Friday

  1. An early morning walk: I walked around our neighborhood for 45 minutes, but at a very fast pace. I only stopped to snap some pictures with my phone.
  2. Light Breakfast: I usually eat a big breakfast that's rich in protein and fiber, but my breakfast was very light that morning.
  3. Snacks: I started to feel hungry after church. I fixed myself a cup of coffee, which I enjoyed with two cookies before heading back to the house.
  4. Lunch: I had Cole Slaw with barbecued pork. I was so hungry that I could not wait for anything else to be ready.
  5. Dinner: I really surprised myself with the burger. I had my burger on the bottom part of the bun, covered with ketchup and lots of lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles. What's a BBQ without a hot dog, right? Since I did not have much fiber in the morning, I added some baked beans with brown sugar to my plate. I added a little more protein, too.
  6. Swimming: We all hit the pool 30 minutes after we ate. And guess what? I felt hungry almost two hours later. What is it about swimming that makes us feel hungry?
Gaining one more pound is my greatest fear right now. And I don't think I gained anything. Trying to lose the last 10 pounds is harder than  I thought.  I wonder if I reach the point where I have to eliminate white rice and pasta? What do you think?

  1. Congrats on doing so well during the Memorial Day holiday! I definitely did NOT...lol. Losing my last 5-10 lbs was hard also. I eventually did have to start cutting out a bit more carbs to get there. Either way just change something up whether it be your exercise routine or different foods until something shakes!

  3. Because I was chef for our Memorial Day Bash...I barely ate a thing. I was too busy running about! Hmm...maybe I should do that everyday? LOL.

Swimming is an AMAZING workout! That's probably why you felt so hungry afterwards!

  11. I like food a little too much but i know that feeling when you just want to watch what you eat in check while you party. So much temptation and a need to feel you should reward yourself..... Well done in successfully making it through a BBQ party without indulging.

  13. Keeping track of what you do and eat is a great tool to use Nerline. I recently came across a picture on pinterest of a girl that weighed the same weight, but looked amazingly tone on 2nd picture. That has totally changed my perspective on weight. I am focusing on toning rather than loosing and people are asking if I'm loosing weight already. So crazy! Eating healthy of course makes a huge difference. Keep it up!
