5 Things You Should Know About Dry Shampoo

Some of you would agree that dry shampoo is the best thing that happened to us since makeup. Dry shampoo can turn a bad, sweater hair day into a voluminous strand fiesta. Happy hair, happy day, right? Dry shampoo is a quick fix for those of you who hit the gym at least 5 times a week. It is convenient. And now that there are brands that are making it more affordable, there’s no reason for you not to grab a bottle. But as in everything else in life, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. Using dry shampoo for the purposes intended is the best way to enjoy its benefits without causing damage to your hair. Below is everything you need to know about dry shampoo.

5 Things You Should Know About   Dry Shampoo

1. It does not work like regular shampoo

I know girl, it’s shocking!

A dry shampoo  should  only be used  on dry hair, not on wet hair. Unlike regular  wet shampoo, dry shampoos are formulated  to absorb  oil from the hair, not completely getting rid  of it. Using a dry shampoo on your scalp everyday does  not guarantee  a clean scalp. You  still have  to use a clarifying  shampoo at least once a month to remove  oil and product  buildup  from the scalp.

2. Using it too often

Using too much dry shampoo  on your hair can even  cause more buildup  on the scalp. Because  remember, it is dry powder that you are spraying on your scalp. When it comes to using dry shampoo, moderation  is key.

3. Dry shampoo may not be beneficial  for your  hair type

Thin hair gets easily  weighed down. Therefore, spraying dry shampoo  on  your  thin hair  more than you should can lead to too much buildup on your strands, and eventually breakage and hair loss. And for us women with natural hair who really need that extra boost of natural oil, dry shampoo might be a curse stead of  a blessing.

4. Skin conditions and allergies

Dry shampoo  contains  butane or Isobutane  as their first  ingredient. Butane is an alkaline and it should  be used in moderation to keep  your  hair at a balanced pH level and to avoid  dry scalp, which  can worsen  scalp  conditions like rash and psoriasis. People who suffer from food allergies tend to develop a skin rash faster than people who don’t. Ask your doctor if dry shampoo is right for you.

5. Dry shampoo adds volume. It is also convenient and gym bag friendly

When used in moderation on the hair only (not the scalp), having  a dry shampoo  in your  gym bag can really save the day. It adds  volume  to the hair by absorbing the oil that makes it look greasy and flat. You can carry it in your gym bag without worrying  about it spilling and messing up your gym clothes. With a bottle of dry shampoo on your side, you can go straight from the gym to your 9-5. But remember, do your research and ask questions before getting on the dry shampoo bandwagon.

I've never tried dry shampoo, but this is all great to know. Especially, that it may not be the best option for natural hair.

What a great informative post, Nerline:) Thank you. I remember the first time I used a dry shampoo…I sprayed so much I had to wash it off that night. Now, I know better…I think:P

I have heard about this dry shampoo before, but I actually didn't know how it will work. I might have to try one on my crochet braids, because I don't want to wet shampoo. Ha!

I've been curious about dry shampoo and I do agree that for fine hair like mine, it can totally weigh it down. Such great tips!

Great posts and tips! I have naturally curly hair and I cannot use dry shampoo in it at all. I did once, a long time ago and it was a big mistake. It left my hair dry, poofy and a frizzy mess.

This is such a helpful post. I've been thinking of getting dry shampoo because I have an itchy scalp and it starts like 3 days after fixing new hair. I really hope it helps.
