Nobody loves a road trip more than I do, as long as I am not the one doing the driving. It took us about six hours to drive to South Carolina last Thursday. Although we celebrated my birthday while we were there, the whole trip was about the kids. We wanted them visit a different state and see the ocean. The closest beach to us is in Savannah, GA, but my husband and I visited Myrtle Beach 3 years ago for our wedding anniversary and we fell in love with it. We just knew that the kids would love it. We made the trip fun by listening to music and singing along, cracking jokes, and playing games. We only stopped once to put gas in the car and rest for a little while. When we got to the hotel, we took our luggage to our room, then we headed back out to get something to eat. The kids spent most of the time either on the beach or in the the pools and the hot tub. I always tell people that I love the ocean from a distance. So, one day was the most that I could spend on the beach. While we were in Myrtle Beach , we visited the state park, Broadway at the beach, which is the home of Wonder Works and Ripley's Aquarium. Broadway at the beach is like a big mall on the water. They even have a Victoria's Secret store! Hubby took me there to shop for my birthday. We also visited the boardwalk, where they have lots of games for children, and one of the water parks on the other side of town.
Myrtle Beach is a very busy place during the summer. Most of the hotels and motels in our area were booked while we were there. But I saved some money by booking my trip early and using ebates to get cash back. There are 100s of things to do there. We only used our room to sleep, take a shower, and change our clothes. Every day, we were either out to enjoy the water, visit the area, or eat. The food is expensive, as you would expect from any busy place, but it was good. Thanks to Damon's Grill, I had a full course dinner because it was my birthday on the 25th.
