Five Tips to Safeguard Your Diamond Engagement Ring

An engagement ring symbolizes a public announcement that a couple will soon get married. How soon depends on the couple. It is a piece of jewelry that shows the world that your man is serious about you and he wants to take the relationship to the next level. As women, we don’t always know what’s waiting for us when we get to that next level, but that does not stop us from being excited and ready to share the good news with friends and family. We went from safeguarding our hearts to safeguarding a piece of jewelry. But is it really just a piece of jewelry?

Five Tips to Safeguard Your Diamond Engagement Ring

1) Have a  ring holder next to your sinks

Create a routine by having a ring holder next to your kitchen or bathroom sink. After using the ring holder for a couple of weeks, you will get used to removing your ring before doing dishes or doing your hair. The area will also serve as one of the places to look when you misplace your ring.

2) Take your ring off before going to bed

The best way to keep your engagement ring from getting rubbed against rough fabrics is by removing it before going to bed. That will also keep the prongs from being damaged.

3) Keep your ring at home when going to places that require you to take it off

I wish somebody had given me this advice before I had my son. When I went to the hospital to have my son, they had me remove my jewelry before going to the surgery room. When I got home five days later, I realized I had left my ring in the hospital. I also dropped my ring in the parking lot at work while pulling my keys out of my pocket. I was lucky a co-worker returned it the next day. If you work in a place where you have to wash your hands often, it’s better to leave your ring at home; instead of having to take it off and putting it back on.

5) Have your ring insured

Common sense, right? Well, I did not have a whole lot of that when I got engaged. Having your ring insured is the best way to have it replaced if it ever gets lost, damaged, or stolen. Do your research and find out what the best options are for your ring  and your pockets.

5) Don’t leave your ring unattended when soaking it

About three months after I got engaged, my father-in-law dumped my ring in the toilet bowl by accident. He thought he was just dumping water, but my ring was on under all the bubbles. He felt bad about it, of course! It’s a good thing he did not flush it. A few seconds is all it takes for something to go wrong. Never leave your ring in common places in the house where it can get accidentally thrown away.

Lovely share. I've never misplaced my ring, I'd be very upset. And like you said, I don't care if it's replaced, my sentiments would be running wild. I believe in having a designated place to set valuables at the end of the day. Happy new week my beautiful.

Great tips, Nerline. My husband and I are not very sentimental people, so we don't even really wear our wedding rings most days (him due to work rules, and me because I need to have it resized), but I'll keep these in mind:)

Great tips! The only time I ever take my wedding ring off is if I am baking with dough and have to kneed it with my hands, otherwise it stays on my finger. After 13 years of marriage I haven't been close to losing my ring. I always know where it is.

I''m always impressed at how well most ladies take care of their rings because it takes a lot of work keeping track when you have to take it on and off.

Personally, I am not able to wear rings because I cannot do any thing/work with a ring on and my hubby understands my condition..:-)

    These are very good tips..

Great post and very relevant because I worry about this a lot. I especially do number 3 which is most days because I swim a lot. Make sure I always leave my rings at home and don't take them to the pool.

OMG at your father in law dumping it into the toilet bowl! My favorite tip is to get it insured because life happens. Ohh the stories your engagement ring could probably tell 🙂
