Five Things I Did in October That Made Me Happier

Five Things I Did in October That Made Me Happier

Things have changed! I remember being adventurous in my 20s. I was open to trying new things and visiting different places. But after I got married, I somehow lost myself. I was one of these women who entered their marriages with a lot of expectations but had no idea what was expected from them. I found myself deeper in the whole when we started having children. It was the children first, then my husband, then myself. After reading lots of O magazines, the order changed. It was my husband first, then the kids, then me. Work was not really a priority because I was a stay-at-home mom for five years. The point that I am trying to make is, now that I am 40 and the kids are older, I feel like a totally different person.

Five Things I Did in October That Made Me Happier

1. Playing with makeup and  making the bird eye.

It was Halloween and I wanted to look decent while passing out candy. I took a lot of pictures and asked my daughter to pick the best one. This is the one she picked. I look more like an angry bird in that picture. LOL!

2. Indulging in biscotties and trying Splenda

One of the things that actually surprised me was sitting down and enjoying my green tea, sweetened with Splenda. I don’t like splenda in my coffee or other drinks, but it did taste good in that green tea. Being able to have green tea and eating biscotties again made me more than happy last month.

3. Doing the Kids Halloween makeup and passing out candy

I was like a kid entering a candy store on Tuesday. I was so excited about getting the kids makeup done, I took a picture and shared it on Instagram. Later that day, I was happy to see the other children in the neighborhood in their costumes.

4. Shopping for beauty products at Dollar Tree

Who says beauty products have to be expensive? I have a Dollar Tree store about five minutes away from my house. Driving to that store does not make me happy, but paying $1 for a decent nail polish definitely does.

5. Starting my day with a plan and eating breakfast.

It’s been 4 months since my mother, my little sister, and my niece have been staying with us. I love having my mom here, but I feel like I haven’t been able to get anything done since she’s been here. As my guest, I felt like I had to entertain her. But starting last month, I decided that I would wake up, plan out my day, then eat breakfast in my room, while she is still sleeping.

Life is short. I don’t want to spend the next 20 years thinking about what could’ve been. Find something that makes you happy and spend at least 50% of your time doing it. If sleeping makes you happy, make sure you get plenty of rest. The important thing is to choose you.

Yay. . .I'm so happy that you choose to do more for You. Your brows are on fleek and that lippie is perfect on you too. I say it is good to be selfish and loving myself is super important to me. We all love to be around family, but they are so demanding at times. Keep on loving you Sis. MUAH!!

Love this post and your bird eye!!! Sewing is something that I've recently discovered that I enjoy a lot and most of the time I do it just to me. I'm glad that you are doing more things that you enjoy. 🙂

I love this post so much, Nerline. It always amazes me how much we have in common. Let's just say that I'm slowly but surely coming out of the stage when you mentioned putting husband first, children second, then yourself last. And it almost feels like introducing yourself to to the self you're striving to be, if that even makes sense. I am learning, like you said, that doing for yourself is not selfish and I'm planning my day more around doing more things that make me happy. Thank you for sharing your list with us!

this is such a fun post. Once you get married, taking care of yourself becomes the last thing and it shouldnt be so. It's okay to take time out for yourself sometimes.

Amen!!! I remember clearly when my mother came to that same realization. I think for a lot of women they don't really find themselves until they hit their 40s. I take time for myself by doing my nails and taking time to read a good book.
P.S. You did a great job with that bird eye. It looks very high fashion.
